I am quite willing to believe that, when the Governor spoke, he did so only in the warmth of debate and without a full knowledge of all the circumstances. It seems to me, therefore, manifestly unjust that I should have been singled out for public rebuke, conveyed in the following remarks (I quote from the report of His Excellency's speech in the Government Gazette of 12th November 1877). And, here I may mention two other prisoners...
